Pondicherry is to dance what Seville is to Flamenco. Indian dancer and musician Raghunath Manet, from this former French colony, pay tribute to Pondicherry. He revisits temple dance choreographies on stage preserved from many generations and let us discover the splendours of Indian dance and music.
Pondicherry, When anthropology and art come together ...

During the British colonisation of India, dance masters and dancers were driven out of the temples. Pondicherry, then French territory, allowed the perpetuation of the tradition of temple masters and dancers until 1954, when the territory was returned to India. Mr. S. Nathan, the Guru of Raghunath Manet, who trained many temple dancers (“bayadère”).

Pondichéry est à la danse ce que Séville est au Flamenco. Le danseur et musicien indien Raghunath Manet, originaire de cet ancien comptoir français de l’Inde, accompagné de la fille de la dernière danseuse de temple, rend hommage à Pondichéry. Entourés de leurs artistes, ils re-visitent sur scène des chorégraphies de temples et nous font découvrir les splendeurs de la danse et de la musique indiennes.
